Gotham Goes Quiet
I was freelancing at Hotspot.com’s NATION BLOCK PARTY held at Gotham Penthouse on Clarke Quay last night. Turnout was staggering. All the entrances were jammed. I arrived about 10pm and it took me nearly 30 minutes to push through the crowd and get inside the club. Gotham’s infrastructure was groaning under the strain. Airconditioning was marginal and getting a drink was nearly impossible.
Nevertheless, a real thumping party was in the making. Just when the dancing was gearing up (about 12:10am), the music went dead. Yup, they blew the main amp! A false rumor circulated that the music stopped because of a police raid. That didn’t help! Well, after about 30 minutes I gave up and left as did most of the crowd. I heard that they finally got the sound system up and running well after 1am. The party recovered or so I heard.
