Fly Cheap on Tiger Airways

Tiger Airways Airbus A320 Just back from a week’s vacation in Bangkok, Thailand. I had my camera with me but did not take very many photos. I took this photo by pointing my Canon EOS 20D out the window on Tiger Airways Flight 103 when we were at cruising altitude over Malaysia. Quite a nice shot of the horizon showing curvature of the earth.

Tiger Airways (website) is Singapore’s new budget airline. I purchased a round trip ticket (Singapore/Bangkok) for S$155 (US$94). Cheap, huh? Their prices are exceptionally low considering that they fly new Airbus A320s. The Airbus A320 has a max cruising speed of 889 km/h and a max cruising altitude of 11,920m.

Keep in mind that Tiger Airways has a 15kg checked baggage limit. Above that weight, you will have to pay extra. In addition, you are allowed 7kg for carry-on bags. Food and beverages are not free. However, the prices are very reasonable for drinks and snacks.

Tickets are ‘e-tickets’ that are sent to you via email. Very convenient; just print the ticket and take it to the check-in counter. Be aware – booking changes are not free (read the T&Cs).

IATA Code = TR

Addendum: As of end March 2006, Tiger Airways is using the new Budget Terminal at Changi Airport.
