Canon EOS 30D Raw Conversion Workaround

It would be nice if Canon would cooperate with 3rd party software developers so we could get raw conversion software updates in a timely fashion. Is Canon forcing us to convert raw files with their ever so primitive DPP? Do they realize that even the most recent version does not include highlight recovery? Am I the only one whose workflow is messed up?

The first Canon EOS 30D shipments were sent to Australia nearly a month ago. So far the only vendor to post a Canon EOS 30D compatible software update is BreezeSystems. Kudos to Chris! Silent so far are Adobe, Bibble Labs, Pixmantec, and Phase One.

Again, code jockeys working alone prove faster than the big players. Antoine Khater has posted (no longer online) a clever script that allows Canon EOS 30D raw files (*.cr2) to open in Adobe Photoshop ACR 3.3. Works great! Much better than Canon’s DPP. Thanks Antoine!

This photo of Sherry was converted from a Canon EOS 30D raw file using Antoine’s workaround.

ALERT: No need to use Antoine’s workaround anymore. Adobe has released ACR 3.4. If you used the workaround, don’t forget to delete the files listed below. Just do a search from file manager and zap’em!
