Fjer

Feather - from dinosaur to bird Robert has six photographs published in the recently released book – ‘Fjer’. The book was prepared in conjunction with an exhibition on feathers at the Zoological Museum, Copenhagen University. ‘Fjer’ means ‘feather’ in Danish. The book traces the evolution of birds from dinosaurs focusing on the feather as the key adaptation. There are excellent photographs of models of dinosaurs with protofeathers such as Sinosauropteryx which pre-dated Archaeopteryx. Other chapters show the wide range of feather colors and functions that have evolved in modern birds thoughout the world. The book includes a chapter on the variety of uses that humans, primitive and advanced, have found for feathers.

Photos (plates) of mine published include a King Bird of Paradise, Wilson’s Bird of Paradise, Purpleheaded Glossy Starling, Green and Gold Tanager, Nicobar Pidegon, and Spangled Cotinga. All were taken with with either a Canon EOS 10D or a Canon EOS 20D mounted with Canon telephoto lenses. Web-sized versions can be seen in my Exotic Bird Gallery on PBase.
