Motorola Black Carnival
I had pleasure of covering the Motorola Black Carnival at DXO (Colors by the Bay) last night. The Black Carnival Fashion Show showcased Spring 2006 collections by four Singapore fashion labels: Baylene, Hansel, Nicholas and Mizu. The campaign is the final year project of three fourth-year students (Jasmine Tan, Sheena Chan and Liang Shu-Min) from NTU’s School of Communication and Information (SCI). The purpose of the event was to promote the labels and the sponsors to their target market.
More than just a fashion show, the event was billed as a theatrical event, similar to a Cirque du Soleil performance, where a loose story-line pulls the designs together. According to the organizer, “the theme of the event, Black Carnival, evoked a dark sensuality where the various facets of our target audience’s lives are expressed; Girl (Hansel), Woman (Nicholas & Mizu), Androgyne (Baylene). A grown-up version of the Grimm fairy tales, the event is macabre yet child-like, with the models portraying different characters in this landscape”. Robert says… Cirque du Soleil it wasn’t. However, it was enjoyable nonetheless!
The photo (clickable) above of Melissa was taken with a Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 24-70mmL f/2.8 lens, and Canon Speedlite 580EX flash.
