New Canon Powershot S5 IS
Canon has introduced the long anticipated successor to the popular Powershot S3 IS. The new PowerShot S5 IS inherits 12x optical zoom, optical Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, professional-grade optics and extensive movie functions while introducing a host of new features designed to improve your photography.
The 8MP PowerShot S5 IS is loaded with many of Canon’s latest advanced technologies including the DIGIC III Image Processor, a built-in hot shoe adapter, and a large 2.5-inch swivel type LCD screen with 207K pixel resolution. The swivel LCD screen is long gone from the Canon G-series. This useful feature is usually only found on camcorders.

The camera features a new special scene mode called “Creative Light Effects� making night photography more fun. You can select an effect before shooting, then it transforms background bright spots to stars, hearts, music notes and more.
The movie mode offers VGA (640×480 pixels) and QVGA (320×240 pixels), with frame rates of 30 fps and 15 fps for recording up to 1 hour or 4GB. Also, Fast Frame Rate (QVGA; 320×240 pixels) recording at 60 fps for up to 1 minute, Compact Movie Mode (QQVGA; 160×120 pixels) recording at 15fps for up to 3 minutes, and Time Lapse (640×480) recording at 1 or 2 sec. intervals.
While the PowerShot S5 IS is the last stop before a photographer plunges into the world of dSLR bodies and interchangeable lens, don’t expect that the images can compare with those produced from Canon’s 22.2×14.8 mm CMOS sensor. Nonetheless, the PowerShot S5 IS is packed with features that are sure to please the advanced amateur.
The Canon PowerShot S5 IS digital camera will be available in July for a price of $499.99 (US MSRP).
