New L-Series Telephoto Lenses from Canon
Canon USA has announced the development of two new L-Series telephoto lenses: the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM and the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM. Canon will exhibit prototypes of the new lenses at PhotoPlus Expo (booth #318) which will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, October 18 to 20.
According to Canon, the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM, targeting photographers who seek a brighter lens for portraiture and indoor sports photography. The EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, expected to deliver telephoto performance surpassing the current top-of-the-line EF 600mm f/4L IS USM super telephoto lens, is being developed in response to requests from users working in the fields of sports and news photography who are looking for a high-performance lens that offers a longer focal length.
I expect that the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM lens will be very well received as it’s predecessor, the EF 200mm f/1.8L USM lens has been out of production since 2004.
The list price for the Canon EF 200mm f/2L is US$5,999.00 while the Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM lists for $11,999.00.
