Canon Announces EOS 450D Digital SLR
On January 23rd, Canon USA announced the release of the EOS Rebel XSi digital SLR camera. The name game continues with buyers outside the USA seeing the camera labeled ‘EOS 450D’.
Clearly, the replacement for EOS 400D, the new camera jumps resolution to 12.2MP. What else is new? Image processing now uses a 14-bit A/D converter. Yup, that means 14-bit RAW files! Also, there is new spot metering (4%). The viewfinder is larger. Amazingly at such a low price, the camera includes a Live view mode. Storage now switches to SD/SDHC memory cards. The dust reduction system is the same as in the EOS 400D.

Canon continues to squeeze more and resolution from the same size sensor first introduced in the EOS D30. Will they be able to maintain low noise found in images produced by the EOS 400D? All the information currently available is pre-release. No independent tests are available yet.
The EOS 450D will be available in April in silver/black and all black colors.
