New Canon PowerShot A2000 IS
Pre-Photokina 2008 Canon has announced the new PowerShot A2000 IS to replace the popular PowerShot A720 IS model.
Slimmer than the A720 IS, the A2000 IS has a 10MP sensor, advanced noise reduction, faster buffering speeds, face detection and MMCplus, HC MMCplus card compatibility. Other than those features, not much else is new.
New face detection (AF/AE) is built into the DIGIC III which can find and track up to 9 faces in the frame and controls exposure/flash to ensure proper illumination of the faces as well as the rest of the frame, reducing the detrimental effect of overexposed or darkened faces. It reverts to the AiAF system if the subject is either not detected or not deemed to be a subject (based on the iSAPS database). The iSAPS technology is useful at tourist spots where there may be many people around who are not intended to be the subject of the photo*.

Any gotchas?
Hey Canon, where’s the handgrip? That ‘bar-of-soap’ shape makes cameras easy to drop. And realistically, the maximum usable ISO is 400. Higher ISO settings are very noisy.
