Canon PowerShot G10 – Gets 15MP, Wide Angle and Servo AF

Canon PowerShot G10 photo Canon has announced the newest addition to its PowerShot G-Series digital cameras – the PowerShot G10. Compared to the PowerShot G9, the PowerShot G10 upgrades include a sensor upgrade from 12MP to 15MP as well as Canon’s DIGIC 4 image processor, 28mm optical image stabilized zoom lens and RAW mode.

The PowerShot G10 drops back from a 6X zoom lens to 5X zooms lens (28-140mm equivalent). The 5x wide-angle zoom lens better assists photographers in capturing large portraits, landscapes, and close-ups. Also new, the controller wheel is equipped with a dedicated Exposure Compensation Dial with an improved custom mode that makes it easier to set two different presets. Also, a new 3″ LCD has improved the color depth and a wider viewing angle compared to the PowerShot G9.

The most useful of the new features is Servo AF – which with a half-press on the shutter keeps tracking subjects up until the full press captures the shot. Face detection has also been improved to recognize people at sharper angles and to optionally trigger the self-timer when a new face enters the frame. Canon claims the same ISO 1600 sensitivity as with the PowerShot G9

Price and Availability

The Canon PowerShot G10 will be available at retailers in October at a price of US$499.99 (MSRP). However, pre-ordering for faster delivery is available at some retailers.
