Tamron Announces 18-270mm Digital Zoom Lens

Tamron 18-270mm Digital Zoom Lens Tamron Co. Ltd has issued press releases simultaneously in Japan and in the USA to announce a new 15X zoom lens with built-in vibration compensation. Mounts will be available for Canon and Nikon (with built-in motor) digital SLR cameras.

The Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO Lens (Model B003) is the first digital SLR lens with vibration compensation (VC) that delivers a zoom ratio of 15X (28-419mm equivalent). The lens was designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized image sensors¹.

The optical system uses two low dispersion (LD) glass elements and three aspherical elements in order to effectively compensate for aberrations including astigmatism.

Also, the outer design of the lens has been improved. A gold-colored metal ring is placed at the end of the outer barrel as in other Di II lenses. The “TAMRON” logo placed in the center portion of the lens enhances visibility of the brand while refining the overall design.

Delicate matte finish has been added to the black painting over the lens barrel in order to enhance the appearance of the lens. The textured rubber pattern of the zoom and focus control rings have been improved to a more pronounced, easier to grasp design compared to the conventional rubber pattern.
